How to Choose a Life Coach in Delhi NCR: A Simple Checklist (With Questions to Ask)

Life Coach in Delhi NCR

Quick answer: To choose a life coach in Delhi NCR, check three things first: a recognised credential such as ICF certification, real experience with goals like yours, and a clear process you can understand before you pay. Then book an intro call, ask the questions in this guide, and notice how the conversation feels. Trust is part of the decision.

If you have ever typed “life coach in Delhi NCR” into Google late at night, you already know the problem. There are dozens of profiles, and every one of them promises more confidence, more clarity and a better life. Some of those coaches are excellent. Some have a weekend certificate and a polished Instagram page. How do you tell them apart?

I’m Lalit Hundalani, an ICF-certified life and executive coach with over two decades of corporate and coaching experience. I’m also a coach you might end up comparing, so I’ll be upfront about that. This is the checklist I would want a friend of mine to use before hiring any coach, including me.

It takes about ten minutes to read. It could save you months and a good amount of money.

What does a life coach actually do?

A life coach is a trained professional who partners with you to get clear on what you want, and then helps you build and follow a plan to get there. The work is about the future: your goals, your habits, your decisions, the beliefs that hold you back.

It is not therapy. Therapy works with past trauma and mental health conditions, and it is done by licensed professionals. It is also not mentoring, where someone hands you advice from their own path.

A good coach asks sharp questions so you find your own answers, then holds you accountable for acting on them. If you are dealing with depression, severe anxiety or trauma, please speak to a qualified mental health professional first, or alongside coaching. A responsible coach will tell you the same.

Why choosing the right life coach in Delhi NCR matters

Life in Delhi NCR has its own pressure points. Long commutes between Gurugram, Noida and Delhi. Demanding corporate cultures. Family expectations. The sandwich-generation squeeze of looking after children and ageing parents at the same time. Startup uncertainty. A coach who understands how work and family really run here will coach you differently from someone reading a generic script.

There is also a simple fact about this industry: coaching is not a regulated profession in India. Anyone can print “life coach” on a visiting card. That is exactly why a checklist helps.

The 7-point checklist for choosing a life coach in Delhi NCR

1. Check the credentials (and actually verify them)

Start with certification. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is one of the most widely recognised bodies for professional coaching. Its credentials come in levels (ACC, PCC and MCC) based on training hours and coaching experience. Ask which level the coach holds, who trained them, and whether you can verify it in the ICF directory.

A coach with no formal training is not automatically a bad coach. But you should know what you are paying for.

2. Look for experience that matches your goal

A coach who is brilliant with first-time founders may not be the right fit for a manager stepping into a bigger role, or for someone rebuilding confidence after a career break. Ask how long they have coached, roughly how many hours, and with what kind of people. Real-world work experience matters too. A coach who has led teams and handled corporate pressure will understand your Monday morning in a way a textbook cannot.

3. Understand their method before you pay

You should be able to answer one question after your first call: “What will actually happen in our sessions?” Look for a structured process: clear goals, focused conversations, reflection exercises, action between sessions and a way to measure progress. Be careful with anyone who talks only in big promises and never explains how.

4. Read reviews in more than one place

One platform can be misleading. Check the coach’s Google Business Profile, plus independent sites like Trustpilot and Just Dial. Read the detailed reviews, not just the star rating, and look for specifics: what changed for the client, and how the coach worked. If you would like to see how real client feedback looks, my Google Business Profile for Delhi is linked above.

5. Decide between life coaching and executive coaching

Choose life coaching if your goals are personal: clarity, confidence, balance, direction. Choose executive coaching if you want to grow professionally: leadership, communication, performance. A good coach will tell you honestly which one you need, even if it means referring you elsewhere. You can read about both on the coaching services page. I run a signature Version 2.0 life coaching program and a LEAD 2.0 executive coaching program.

6. Check the format: online, in person, or both

Anyone who has crossed Delhi at 6 pm knows why this matters. Online coaching over Zoom or Google Meet saves hours of travel and works well for most people in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Some people prefer to meet in person. Ask what is available and whether sessions run at times that suit your working day.

7. Ask for full transparency on fees, sessions and confidentiality

Before you pay anything, you should know the number of sessions, the total cost, the cancellation policy and how your information is protected. Real coaching conversations should be completely confidential.

Also be realistic about time. Most people need around 8 to 16 sessions over 3 to 6 months for lasting change. Many notice mindset shifts in the first 2 to 3 sessions, but habits take longer to settle. A coach who promises to transform your life in one session is selling, not coaching. If you simply want to get unstuck and decide your next step, a single 60-minute clarity session is a sensible way to start. If you are still unsure that coaching works at all, my post Does Coaching & Training really help? is a good place to begin.

12 questions to ask a life coach before you book

Use these on your free intro call. A good coach will be happy to answer every one of them.

About credentials and experience
  1. Which coaching certification do you hold, and who trained you?
  2. How many hours have you coached, and have you worked with people in situations like mine?
  3. What is your professional background outside coaching?
About the process

4. What does your coaching approach look like, in plain words?

5. What will happen in our first three sessions?

6. How will we measure progress, and how will I know it is working?

7. What do you expect from me between sessions?

About fit and logistics

8. What is the full cost, the number of 9. Are sessions and the cancellation policy?

10. How do you protect my confidentiality?

11. What happens if we realise we are not a good match?

12. When would you refer me to a therapist or another professional instead?

The last question is a quiet test of honesty. A coach who never says “this is not for me to handle” deserves a second look.

What to expect when you work with a coach

A good coaching journey usually starts with a conversation about where you are and where you want to be. From there you set goals, break old patterns, build new habits and review progress regularly. Sessions are focused, so you leave with clear actions rather than just a good feeling. If you often feel held back by your own thinking, you may also like my post on breaking free from internal barriers. And if your struggle is mostly about work, stuck in the wrong job or work-life balance strategies may help you think it through before your first session.
