Have you ever made significant mistakes? Not a tiny error but one of those blunders you’ll never forget and always be sorry for.

If YES, then invariably you have two options:

Option 1: Keep feeling guilty, stress yourself, and stay put.

Option 2: Learn from the mistake and move on in life.

If option 2 is your choice, then this post is meant for you.

As long as we learn from our mistakes, we may use that knowledge to make better decisions in the future.

Here is the DRAW  formula to help you recover from a blunder and make the most of your mistakes:

  • Diagnose the Error
  • Reframe the Event
  • Apply the Learnings
  • Walk Forward

Diagnose the Error: Instead of making excuses or passing the blame to someone else, take ownership of your actions and determine what went wrong. Whatever had to happen has already happened; instead of covering up, accept responsibility and own up to your error.

Reframe the Event: Consider how committing this error could be beneficial. There might be an opportunity to accomplish something, or at the very least learn something, here. Think deeply until you’ve come up with something worthwhile. Reflect on the choices and emotions that led to this blunder, and identify what you can learn from it.

Apply the Learnings: Take what you’ve learned and put it into practice. It starts with determining your best course of action for the future. What’s the next step to make things better? What could you do differently next time? Identify areas to improve, resources to acquire, and skills to develop to move forward positively.

Walk Forward: Prepare yourself for future scenarios. One way is to improve your problem-solving skills and your ability to think critically and creatively. Another way is to learn from the mistakes of others by reading books or engaging in meaningful conversations.

It is critical to remember that you are not the sum total of your mistakes. You will achieve steady progress if you learn from every event and are willing to adapt and adjust your course of action.

Cheers!
