Among the various emotions, anger is one that visits us frequently, mostly un-invited.
Uncontrolled anger can take a toll on both your health and your relationships.
It can spoil the long-nurtured relationship in a short span.
Learning anger management is the key to a long-lasting relationship.
Are you ready to get your anger under control?
Start by considering these 6 easy steps!
Realization: The first step is self-awareness. Recognize anger with these signs- tension in your muscles, grinding of your teeth, flushing of your face, clenching of your fist, and an ever-increasing sound of your voice.
Change the position: When angry, step away from the situation and calm yourself down. Change your physiology, if you are standing then sit down and talk to yourself that everything will be fine and that you are in full control of your emotions.
Find the trigger: It’s time to identify what exactly lead to you feeling angry. Was it something a person said? Was it may be something they did? Think about what exactly triggered your anger and then question why you felt agitated and angry in that particular situation.
Change the narrative: Challenge yourself to change the way you react in a situation. How you are feeling in this very moment is a direct result of the story you are telling yourself about what just happened. Change that story and you change your view of the situation.
Replace reaction with the response: Respond in a way that helps you make the most of the situation. Either avoid the situation, control your anger, release pent-up anger, or redirect your anger in more optimal and helpful ways.
Learn & repeat: It’s time to learn from your experience. Take a moment to think about how you handled the situation and how you handled yourself in this situation. How will you respond in the future when facing a similar situation?
When you’re angry, there is a certain pattern that you follow. In order to change this pattern, you need to establish new and more helpful patterns. These techniques are very simple and doable; you just need to commit to improving the way you respond to people & circumstances.
Cheers!
