Most people have these big dreams and aspirations, but only a few can make it to the finishing line. They want to achieve many things that don’t seem to progress.
Have you wondered why?
Have you ever faced this situation?
If the answer is YES, then this article is just for you.
One of the key reasons for this situation is Self-Doubt.
Self-doubt is your inner voice that keeps on questioning your ability to accomplish things.
It consistently keeps throwing all the reasons as to why you can’t do something.
You are continuously reminded of your past failures that stop you from taking action and moving forward.
You desperately want to overcome self-doubt but just don’t know-how.
or maybe, you have tried many things, but nothing seems to be working
Let me share a simple 6 step process to break the self-doubt. You can try and see the results for yourself.
Recall the Past success: When you are feeling low, inspiration helps in recharging your mood. Think about all the past events and incidents in your life where you achieved something or overcome some hurdles. Remind yourself of the exact journey and how you were able to accomplish that feat. Once that happens, you regain confidence. Your mind gets evidence that if you have achieved something in the past, you can do it again too. If you do it effectively, you will notice a change in your mood.
Outline the reason for uncertainty: The next step in the process is to get clarity of your objective. Identify what it is that you want to achieve, what is your desired outcome. Once it’s done the next step would be to list down all the possible uncertainties that are there. Make a note of all the reasons that can play a spoiler in your journey towards achieving your goal.
Break the Mental Barriers: Once you have made a list of all the possible reasons that are causing uncertainties in your mind, you need to go over each item in the list one at a time and find the reason for the same. Essentially analyzing the causes. Why do you think you won’t be able to do it or feel uncertain about it. Is it a lack of required skills or this is something you are doing for the first time or is it the fear of failure, etc.? Whatever it is, list down everything.
Gain clarity: One of the reasons for self-doubt is a lack of clarity. Our mind seeks a clear path towards realizing the result & when that doesn’t happen, problems occur. To clarify, take out the list of reasons prepared in the last step and highlight the missing skills and resources that create doubt. Please make note of all the missing links, whether knowledge, skills, resources, support items, or any other things. Against each item write down, how you can get hold of these things.
Make a Plan: By this time, you have extracted the list of all the uncertainties, their causes, and how you can address them. Now make a plan to address them one at a time. A step-by-step plan will help you cut the clutter and reduce the feeling of overwhelming. Start by picking one action item at a time, fill in the gaps and reduce uncertainties.
Find a compelling reason: Since this process needs hard work, you will feel like giving up. The default settings of humans want us to avoid anything painful. To repel this feeling, answer some powerful questions and write answers to them :
Define the reason why you started?
Why must you achieve this goal?
What difference will it make in your life?
What will happen if you miss this?
Once you get clarity of consequences, you will be forced to get back on track without giving up.
The anti-dote of self-doubt is self-confidence.
Self-confidence comes from experience.
Experience comes from doing things and taking action.
To get that experience, we need to face uncertainty, and where uncertainty exists, there will always be some level of self-doubt.
If you’re committed, have a compelling reason for moving forward & a system that gives your clarity of path and assurance of achievement, then self-doubt will never stand in your way.
